Valley grow notes · Phoenix, AZ

Hot Summers
= better planning.

It’s hot. You only get one shot a year. Pick a pack that can finish in the Valley — not one written for Amsterdam.

6plants per adult, 21 or older — that’s the usual Arizona home-grow limit. Check your city before you start.
12plants max in one house if two adults live there. Don’t buy more packs than you can actually grow.
21+This shop is for adults. Seeds are sold as novelty hemp. Growing them is your job, and your rules.

What the year feels like here

A simple outdoor Phoenix calendar.

Jan – Mar

Start indoors

If you want to start new seeds for outside, keep in mind they will need to be close to the desired height before placing outdoors. During these months there is not enough daylight for photoperiods to continue vegging and will transition straight into flower, meaning they will not grow much bigger and start to flower right away. Be sure to throw them outside no later than 2nd week of March or you will be too late for a 8-9 week strain!

Apr – Jun

If planning on an outdoor Photoperiod strain

If you already started new seeds indoors, then you can move them outside no sooner than May 20th or they will start to flower immediately.

Jul – Sep

Monsoon

Monsoon season can wreak havoc on your plants. Rain and humidity can rot thick dense buds. Make sure to place a shade cloth of 50-60% over your plants to keep the valley sun from scorching the plants & the rain from destroying them.

Oct – Dec

Harvest & start again

Outdoor photoperiods will finish and can be harvested. Then Phoenix starts to cool down some and would be a good time for an Autoflower.

Indoor garden

Most people grow indoors

An indoor grow tent is the Phoenix standard.

An Indoor grow can be in a closet or grow tent. This is the 1st choice by many living in the Valley of the Sun.

First grow? Pick a strain that flowers in about 7–9 weeks and stays short.

Good first tent packs

Mexican Rush

If you grow outside

Pick a fast plant. Slow ones won’t finish.

Start seeds in cups indoors. Move them outside only after nights stay warm. Cold nights plus hot days can kill a seedling if you rush it.

Look for “short summers” on the pack, and a finish around September. Long plants like Amnesia, Sour Diesel, and Mexican Rush need a greenhouse or they’ll still be flowering in the rain. Rain rots thick buds.

Safer outside

The easy kind of seed

Autos flower on their own. You don’t change the lights.

A regular plant needs you to switch the light timer (usually 18 hours on, then 12 hours on to make it flower). An autoflower — including these F1 packs — starts flowering by itself. Put the seed in the pot it will finish in. Don’t sit it on a hot windowsill in July.

Quiet & fast

Epsilon F1 doesn’t smell much until the end. Good if you don’t want the hallway to know.

Small tent

Apollo and Milky Way stay short. Skip Hyperion if your light is already close to the ceiling.

Need height

Hyperion and Cosmos get tall. They need a real tent, not a shelf in a closet.

Neighbors, HOAs, hallways

Some plants smell a lot. Plan for that.

Epsilon F1

Quieter

Epsilon F1 doesn’t smell much until harvest. ICE is louder after you dry it than while it grows. If you share a vent, start with one of these.

Phoenix tap water is too hard. You will need to use RO (Reverse Osmosis) or bottled drinking water for best results.
Standard plastic / fabric pots

Water when the pot is light

Depending on the soil or grow medium, a pot can go from wet to dry in a day. Pick it up first. Don’t water on a schedule you guessed.

Soil

Let the soil dry a bit

Too much water rots roots. Overwatering is the #1 problem most growers won’t admit.

Tap water

Arizona tap water is never recommended.

Valley water is often too alkaline and often too high in PPM/TDS.

If you don’t know where to start

Match the seeds pack to the grow space.
